Tuma allows alternative penalty as Corinthians councillor gets six-month ban over Parque São Jorge bid | OneFootball

Corinthians’ Deliberative Council gave Mario Mello Junior a six-month ban, not expulsion, for the 31 May 2025 Parque São Jorge attempt to reinstate ex-president Augusto Melo.

According to Meu Timao, councillors approved an alternative penalty, voting 80 for suspension, 19 for expulsion and four abstentions, in a session chaired by Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior. The Ethics and Discipline Commission had sought his removal.

The decision contrasted with eight June, when Maria Angela Ocampos, then first secretary, and Ethics members Paulo Juricic and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé were expelled. Mello Junior’s vote was delayed for medical reasons while he was investigated for his role.

A group led by Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos tried to void the vote that impeached Melo. She declared herself Council head after entering the chamber, a move that, if accepted, would have ousted interim chief Osmar Stabile.

Two further cases proceeded after missed appeal deadlines. Mané da Carne was expelled by 65 votes, with seven for a one-year ban and one abstention, after reports of a threat of assault and a racial slur.

Marcelo Mariano drew 35 votes for expulsion against 21 for a 12-month suspension, with six abstentions, linked to the VaideBet case in which he is a defendant. On 10 August, cases for Claudinei Alves, Valmir Costa and Paulo Cesar de Andrade Prado are due.

Claudinei and Valmir were expelled over 31 May but Tuma granted a suspensive effect in early July. Paulo Cesar could be readmitted after a favourable opinion.
