Turkey strike at the death to defeat the USA | OneFootball

With a thrilling finish and a goal in the final moments, Turkey showed its true colours in this World Cup, albeit too late, managing to end the United States' unbeaten run with a 3-2 victory in Los Angeles.

The game began with intense pressure from the USA, who didn't take long to score. Auston Trusty, who had already given Ugurcan Çakir trouble, pounced on a loose ball from a corner kick to open the scoring.

Turkey, previously quiet in the game, managed to equalise shortly after. Baris Yilmaz received the ball wide on the right and sent it into the box for Arda Güler to make it 1-1.

From then on, Turkey, belatedly, showed its true colours in this World Cup. Led by Kenan Yildiz and Güler, the Turks even took the lead. Yildiz received a great pass from Güler on the left side of the box and laid it off for Orkun Kökcu to tap into the net.

The United States only managed to level the score after the break, when Sebastian Berhalter pounced on a loose ball after a defensive clearance to level the score again.

Without pressure, both teams played an open game. Either side could have left Los Angeles with the victory, and the decision came down to the last second. After a brilliant play by Arda Güler, including a nutmeg, Can Uzun received the ball in the area, passed it to the middle, and after the defence failed to clear, substitute Kaan Ayhan secured the Turkish victory.

The result doesn't change anything in terms of group standings. Leading the group, the Americans will face Bosnia & Herzegovina next Wednesday. Turkey, meanwhile, is preparing a promising generation to do better in the next World Cup.
