Trabzonspor’s president Ertugrul Dogan has confirmed that they want to sign Manchester United star Andre Onana on a permanent transfer this summer.
The Cameroonian is currently playing for the Turkish outfit, having joined on a season-long loan last summer.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in a £47.2 million deal in 2023. He made several high-profile mistakes, forcing United back into the market.
He was under the impression that he would stay at United this season.
He missed the opening game of the campaign due to a hamstring issue and was demoted by former manager Ruben Amorim upon his return.
Onana left to join Trabzonspor on loan, with United signing Senne Lammens on deadline day.
The 30-year-old has impressed in Turkey, keeping six clean sheets in 26 Super Lig games.
He saved three penalties to lead his team to victory against Samsunspor in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals this week.
The Trabzonspor president admitted after the game that he wanted Onana to stay at the club.
He told NTV Spor: “Onana’s career is already established. We like him. I’ve said this before. He has a certain plan for his career.
“If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana’s.”
Onana earned rave reviews with his displays at Trabzonspor, but United have no plans to reintegrate him into the squad.
Lammens has brought a much-needed sense of calm to the defence, and the Red Devils want him to continue as their first-choice goalkeeper.
Altay Bayindir has served as a number two, but he is expected to leave the club this summer.
Bayindir wants more first-team opportunities and has agreed terms with Besiktas.
