Two Athletic fans identified over attempted assault on Betis supporters | OneFootball

Two 18-year-old Athletic supporters were identified by Ertzaintza officers after an attempted assault on a group of Betis fans near San Mamés on Sunday night, the Basque Security Department said.

The incident followed the match between the Bilbao and Seville clubs. A citizen alerted police that two Athletic youths were trying to attack Betis supporters.

A third person intervened to prevent the assault. The Betis fans sought refuge inside a bar.

When the two home supporters returned to confront them again, a patrol intercepted the pair and took their details.

Both have been proposed for sanction under the law against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport.

In recent days it has emerged that Athletic president Uriarte has received threats from Herri Norte radicals at his home.
