Both sanctions, it is understood, come owing to developments in the aftermath of Barcelona’s most recent European outing.

The Blaugrana of course saw their campaign on the continent brought to an end at the semi-final stage of the Champions League this past season.

This came owing to a heartbreaking extra-time defeat at the hands of Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan.

Despite the devastating nature of the outcome, post-match at San Siro, the aforementioned Lamine and Lewandowski were nevertheless called upon by UEFA for routine anti-doping tests.

As per Marca, however:

‘The governing body believes both players failed to comply with the instructions of the Anti-Doping Control Officer (Article 21.8) and failed to immediately report to the Control Post (Article 21.10(a)), as required by the regulations.’

The Blaugrana pair, in turn, have been hit with respective €5,000 fines.
