Two years on from his Palmeiras debut, Felipe Anderson is still searching for a leading role, his progress checked by fitness issues since arriving from Lazio in 2024 amid high expectations.
According to Nosso Palestra, the club at times assessed his future due to underwhelming output and interrupted runs, but the current stance is that he wants to stay, regain his place and justify the investment and status.
Physical problems have been the constant barrier. In Italy he enjoyed remarkable availability, completing three seasons without missing a game for Lazio. In Brazil he has dealt with pubalgia, muscular oedema, hip inflammation, ankle sprains and other setbacks, missing about 16% of matches.
In May he acknowledged that the Brazilian calendar’s intensity forced changes to his routine and even his style. He said he sometimes played through pain, focused more on the mental side and adjusted his game to be decisive, while Abel Ferreira publicly reaffirmed his belief in the player.
Even without the expected prominence, Felipe Anderson has continued to tick off landmarks, recently surpassing 100 appearances to join the squad’s centurions.
Inside the club, there is hope the second half of the season can offer a reset. With inter-season work completed and a steadier physical base, he will try to convert potential into regular performances and claim the prominence that underpinned his signing two years ago.
