Once again, Olympique Lyonnais find themselves in a precarious financial position heading into the summer. Last summer, the club had a firesale in order to prevent their administrative relegation to Ligue 2. Whilst the club must still meet the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog – the situation does not look as dire this time around, although sales are still required before the end of June, as per a report from L’Équipe.
The publication understands that the club must raise €20m in player sales in order to prevent potential sanctions. The club have therefore had to discern between the ‘untouchables’ and those that will be allowed to leave.
Tyler Morton, who arrived last season from Liverpool, is part of the former, as are Dominik Greif, Moussa Niakhaté, Corentin Tolisso, and Malick Fofana or Afonso Moreira. If one of the latter two goes, the other will be part of that ‘untouchable’ group.
However, for Morton and the others on this list, OL will still not be able to refuse an offer that is too difficult to turn down, L’Équipe understands. Lyon will be more receptive to interest in the likes of Nicolas Tagliafico, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Orel Mangala, Abner Vinicius, Pavel Sulc, Tanner Tessmann, and Ruben Kluivert, all of whom are targets for other clubs.
The Athletic reported earlier this week that Atletico Madrid are interested in Tessmann, who could leave for a fee between €20-25m.
