Manchester United loanee Tyrell Malacia is reportedly set to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

United’s recruitment department might be rubbing their hands at the prospect of raising substantial transfer fees from sales of Marcus Rashford and Antony on the back of their incredible performances away from Manchester.

Both Rashford and Antony left the club on loan in January to join Aston Villa and Real Betis respectively. Now, the pair are expected to attract plenty of interest during the summer transfer window. However, not every loanee is enjoying the same fortunes.

Malacia has endured a very difficult time at PSV Eindhoven after returning to the Netherlands late in the winter window in a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

According to Eindhovens Dagblad (via Get Belgian & Dutch Football News), the Dutchman is set to return to his parent club as PSV will not exercise their buying option.

United handed PSV an option to turn the left-back’s loan deal into a permanent move for €10 million. But he has done little to convince the club to invest that much on him at the end of the campaign.

Manager Peter Bosz has only handed three Eredivisie starts to the 25-year-old, placing his trust in Brazilian left-back Mauro Junior instead.

In 10 appearances across all competitions, Malacia has yet to register a goal or an assist for one of the most attacking teams in the league.

Following the side’s defeat at the hands of Go Ahead Eagles in March, PSV legend Rene Van de Kerkhof asked the club to get rid of the former Feyenoord man.

The return of Erik ten Hag’s first signing in Manchester would complicate United’s plans.

Malacia is not suited to playing the wing-back role under Ruben Amorim due to his lack of creativity in the final third.

It is also going to be difficult for the Mancunians to find a new club for him considering how poor his loan stint in Eindhoven has fared so far.
