Manchester United have announced their Premier League squad for the season, and there are a few surprises.

As per the club website, the Red Devils announced their 59-strong selection, with the likes of Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo, and Leny Yoro all qualifying as U21 players. This is why they are not included in the main list that follows.

The most surprising call was Tyrell Malacia’s inclusion, with the Dutchman a part of the bomb squad INEOS were desperate to get rid of.

The full-back has been linked with a move to Turkiye, but so far, he has shown no inclination of accepting a loan arrangement.

Malacia included in squad list

The Turkish window closes later today and this call could indicate that the ex-Feyenoord ace will be reintegrated into the main squad as Ruben Amorim had promised.

“We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide. If we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join the team because they are our players,” the head coach had said during pre-season.

“I’m ready to receive the players. They have more competition, more competition if you want to play in the World Cup next year, you need to play.”

Since recovering from a serious knee injury, the 26-year-old has struggled for form, which prompted United to send him out on loan last January.

Another surprise addition

Despite winning the league with PSV Eindhoven, he returned to Manchester and has been training separately till now.

The other surprise addition in the list is academy ace Rhys Bennett, who had spent last season out on loan at League Two side Fleetwood Town.

He was expected to leave on loan yet again, but has stayed back, which might indicate a senior breakthrough this season.
