Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was delighted with the capture of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce during the January window.

Which is why he greenlit Tyrell Malacia’s loan exit with the Dane set to play as a left wingback in Luke Shaw’s absence which will allow Diogo Dalot to play on his favoured right side.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, the Netherlands international joined PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday with the Eredivisie outfit having the chance to make the move permanent in the summer for €10 million.

The Dutch star saw his loan move to Benfica collapse at the last minute but United did not panic and instead found him a new home back in the Dutch league.

Malacia could have joined Wolves

As per journalist Martijn Krabbendam, via Voetbal Verslaafd, the 25-year-old had the chance to join Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers as well but he chose Eredivisie leaders PSV instead.

The move has obviously not gone down well in Rotterdam where Malacia had come up through the ranks at Feyenoord but the left-back chose PSV as his chances of earning regular minutes there was comparatively much higher.

“A lot of people in Rotterdam are angry because he’s going to PSV. But Feyenoord already has three left backs, and that guy is just choosing his own career.

“He could also go to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but if PSV comes… Then you’ll just go play for PSV, right? I understand the sentiment, but players reason differently.”

Feyenoord fans not happy

There was also interest in his services from Real Betis and Celtic but United negotiated hard and earned him a move which also saw the club manage to insert a 30 percent sell-on clause.

Regular minutes was something Amorim could not provide the full-back. Since his return from injury, whenever he started for the Red Devils, Amorim has been forced to bring him off at half-time due to his rustiness.

This was always expected given the defender was out for more than 500 days due to a knee injury which saw him miss the entirety of the last campaign.

Malacia, who was former manager Erik ten Hag’s first signing, enjoyed a relatively successful debut season in which he made 39 appearances in all competitions while providing solid backup to Luke Shaw.
