Tyrique George has labelled Jamie Gittens as “electric” as he heaped praise on Chelsea’s struggling summer signing.

Gittens joined in a deal worth an initial £48m from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, and was one of five attacking signings the Blues made.

The 21-year-old has had a difficult start to the season, although he did look better when he came off the bench in the win against Liverpool.

Gittens has started just two of Chelsea’s opening seven league games, and has made five appearances in all competitions so far this season.

The England under-21 international faces fierce competition in the wides areas and is competing with Alejandro Garnacho for a place on the left wing, whilst Enzo Maresca has also used Pedro Neto there at times.

Gittens has had a difficult start to his Chelsea career.

However, Gittens produced a good performance for England Under-21s against Andorra, and George had a lot of positive things to say about his team-mate.

“No he’s really sharp,” he told Hayters TV.

“He’s really sharp, he’s really good, electric, smart player as well so yeah. He’s a really good player.”

Fierce competition for places in the wide areas

Whilst a positive performance on international duty will no doubt be a boost to Gittens, he needs to start producing in the Premier League.

With the games coming thick and fast in the build up to Christmas, Gittens will likely get plenty of opportunities, and it’s down to him to make the most of them.

The youngster has yet to get his first goal or assist for the Blues, and Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest would be the perfect occasion to get the ball rolling if he features.
