City in the Community (CITC) and Manchester Metropolitan University’s (MMU) Degree course is taking UCAS applications for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Working in partnership with MMU, the course provides students with the skills and experience to help them find success in coaching.
The curriculum offers a space for students to develop through work-based learning based in elite and professional sporting surroundings.
Students can take advantage of fully funded qualifications, activators and workshops, which are built into the university timetable across the three years of learning, with further opportunities for partially funded qualifications also available.
The programme offers the following qualifications:• FdSc Manchester City in the Community Football Coaching • BSc (Hons) Manchester City in the Community Coaching
Learners will enjoy a combined 28 weeks of placement over three years, arranged by CITC.
While on the course, students are also given employment opportunities on CITC’s Kicks, One City, City Girls and BTEC course on a part time basis, allowing them to gain valuable experience.
Former student, Dane Jones, who has gone on to become a coach at City in the Community, spoke about how the course supported him in taking the next steps into his career.
“I started the Degree programme in 2019 as an 18-year-old with a lot of excitement to see where why future would take me," said Dane.
“If you would have told me six years later, that I would be in the position that I am in today, I would not have believed you and this progress is down to the City Degree programme.
“The experiences and opportunities that I was given helped me contribute to successfully gaining employment onto the Premier League Inspires Programme after I graduated in 2022.
“As of today, I am a BTEC Delivery Coach, where I coach full-time football, which is what I set out to do.
“I advocate to my students to join the course as it was instrumental in helping to achieve my career goals.”
Additionally, throughout their time on the course, students will get personalised mentoring support from experienced coaches.
Pilkwan, an international student from South Korea, who is currently on the course, said: “I joined the course because of the work-based learning with CITC, it has been highly rewarding, and I have been able to develop my coaching ability by integrating my knowledge from lectures.”
Another student, Lydia, added: “When joining the course, I was very much in my shell when it came to delivering sessions and I was anxious around delivering.
“However, with help from the staff on the course I not only feel 100% more confident when delivering sessions but also myself growth has come on massively.
“I recently have got a job working as an outreach coach for CITC which is just going to develop me further.”
Sitting under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, the course is designed to engage and inspire young people by providing the qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment and training.
