Atlético Madrid endured a tough night in London. Beaten 4-0 by Arsenal in the Champions League, Diego Simeone’s men saw their unbeaten run come to a sudden halt after five games without defeat in La Liga.

The match was balanced in the first half, but the Gunners took control after the break. More clinical and better organized, they quickly pulled away to secure a resounding victory in front of their home fans. Speaking after the game, Simeone acknowledged the superiority of the opposition:

They were better and more decisive in the key moments. After the first goal from a set piece, everything went their way. We were well in the match up until that point.

The Argentine coach still pointed out the small details that could have changed the course of the game:

If Julián Álvarez’s shot hadn’t hit the post, it could have been different. We felt comfortable before that first goal.

With only three points on the board, Atlético will have to react quickly if they hope to qualify. Next up: a La Liga away match against Real Betis next Monday.
