UEFA have confirmed that the team finishing seventh in the Premier League this season could qualify for the 2026–27 Champions League.

England had six participants in the Champions League this season, an unprecedented number of teams from a single nation.

The Premier League’s added league place for co-efficient ranking and Tottenham’s success in the Europa League, where winning the trophy grants entry to the following season’s Champions League, saw six English teams compete among Europe’s elite in 2025-26.

However, UEFA have now confirmed that the team that finishes seventh in the Premier League could qualify, dependent on the success of remaining English teams in Europe.

Seven English teams could qualify if the following happens:

  1. Aston Villa win the Europa League and finish 5th or 6th in the Premier League
  2. Liverpool win the Champions League and finish 5th or 6th in the Premier League.

Brentford would be the current beneficiaries should that happen with the Bees holding seventh-place in the Premier League as things stand.
