Calum McFarlane praised midfielder Enzo Fernandez after a match winning performance on Saturday.
The interim coach said his midfielder always performed when the pressure was on. That’s not quite true – Fernandez performs when he feels like it, and when he’s not trying to get his coach fired.
The way he gave up on Liam Rosenior was very clear both in his stats and in the eye test. Against Brighton, in Rosenior’s final game, he was invisible in attack and defence. The comparison to the game at Wembley was start.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Chelsea player Rob Green said he’d seen it all before:
“Chelsea are a product of the system they are in and modern-day football,” said Green on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“It’s ugly but they have all the power and it was epitomised by [Enzo] Fernandez as he ran the game.
“It was down to him how they played. That is not healthy for a football club but, for Chelsea, it gets them to finals. Give a player an inch, they take a mile.”
There’s great news for Chelsea fans on Estevao, whose hamstring issue might not be as severe as initially feared.
Charlie Austin joked that Chelsea might not actually want a new manager, and he’s not a million miles away.
