The Union of Sports Journalists in France has challenged Olympique de Marseille over its media policy, responding after the club set out its position following the 3-1 win against Lens. According to L'Équipe, the union published its statement on Wednesday.
Marseille said it was providing an institutional clarification about recent interpretations of its relations with the press. The club insisted it neither boycotts nor censors any outlet, adding that access decisions are strategic choices based on context, observed coverage and respect for the institution.
In its reply, the UJSF said it was surprised and concerned by the communication from a club currently in dispute with numerous media. It noted that, by the club’s own criteria, access to information and players would hinge on those evaluations.
The union argued this amounts to working with journalists according to their perceived complacency. It condemned what it considers an intolerable view of information, said it does not match the history of the club, and pledged vigilance as the situation evolves.
Marseille, third in Ligue 1, released its message the day after the Lens match, and the UJSF responded on Wednesday.
