Unai Emery wants a calmer close season as Aston Villa aim to avoid the turbulence that hindered their early months.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Villa did not win any of their first six matches after a window limited by Premier League and UEFA financial fair play rules. They then surged to a fourth-placed finish and lifted the Europa League, ending a 30-year wait for a major trophy.

Emery is hopeful this summer brings fewer uncertainties while the club continues to balance compliance with the regulations. He wants to build on his best campaign yet, though he notes Villa compete with rivals able to spend more, and he stressed the need to keep balance, including around supporter ambition.

This is the first window since Roberto Olabe replaced Monchi as president of football operations. Olabe, previously sporting director at Real Sociedad, earned a reputation for identifying leading young talent and has been tasked with similar work at Villa.

Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye is among targets as Emery seeks more pace in attack. He also wants a midfielder and a defender who can cover right centre-back and right-back. Villa have opted against triggering the £23million option to buy for Douglas Luiz, who will return to parent club Juventus.
