Unai Marrero suffers fracture of left cheekbone in training | OneFootball

Real Sociedad back-up goalkeeper Unai Marrero has suffered a fracture of the left cheekbone during Thursday training at Zubieta, in an accidental incident.

According to AS, the 24-year-old from Azpeitia sustained a facial contusion while preparing for Sunday’s derby at San Mamés against Athletic, then underwent examinations and tests which confirmed the fracture.

Matarazzo will need to call up a goalkeeper from Sanse, with Fraga the one likely to travel to Bilbao, or Arana, who plays on Friday against UD Las Palmas at Zubieta in the Liga Hypermotion.

Marrero has started in the Copa for La Real with good performances. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday morning to reduce and stabilise the injury.

His progress will determine his availability.
