Valencia are in a relegation fight in the top flight, and focus is on Unai Núñez’s wait for minutes as Carlos Corberán defends him and highlights Eray Cömert’s rise.

The Basque centre-back arrived with top-flight experience to add stability, yet his involvement has been scarce, prompting debate among fans. Corberán framed his arrival as that of another squad player, praising his daily attitude.

The coach reiterated that no shirt is guaranteed by name, career or timing of a move. Selection rests on performance and commitment, a stance he applies to the entire squad.

Cömert embodies that meritocracy. After little action early on, he seized chances in the cup and, above all, against Espanyol at Mestalla, where he was solid and scored.

Partnered with Copete, the Swiss has helped deliver stability. Copete brings intensity, aerial strength and character, while Cömert excels in positioning and reading of play, so Corberán prefers not to break a working pairing.

That continuity limits Núñez for now, but he remains a valued option for the run-in thanks to his experience, physical profile and knowledge of the division.
