Joao Pedro may have won Chelsea’s player of the month award for August, but he’s not the only one playing well.

The Blues are unbeaten through three games, and while JP won the award and we’ve given Trevoh Chalobah his flowers for a strong start to the season, there’s another player we’ve yet to mention.

The top rated SofaScore players of the season.

We fear we’ve become a bit inoculated to Moises Caicedo’s top performances. He’s so good, so often that ones gets used to it. But a look at the stats for the whole Premier League this season shows we should be paying more attention.

He has racked up 14 tackles in those 3 games. Only one player in the league has more. Given Chelsea dominate possession in most games, that’s a ridiculous figure. In interceptions he’s top in the whole league with 8. His SofaScore rating for the season so far is 7.83, fourth highest in the whole division.

Caicedo must be treated with care

Of course we’re only a few games in, but it’s a very promising start for Moises. He has got better every year since coming to Chelsea, and incredibly looks to have done it again.

There’s only one thing we worry about with Moises – burnout and injury. He’s got much more cover in midfield this year than last year, and we really hope Enzo Maresca uses it. Caicedo simply can’t play every game in the league and Champions League – sacrifices will have to be made.

The sooner we can get Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos adapted to filling in for him the better, too. They’ve got to replace a superhuman player, and we don’t want them just thrown in to a really important game. The Carabao Cup should offer vital chances to get the midfield balance without Caicedo correct.
