Union St Gilloise made the perfect start to their debut Champions League campaign. The side travelled to Eindhoven in a battle of the champions of the low countries. In the end, it was the Belgian side who overcame the Dutch side, with Union St Gilloise stunning PSV with a 3-1 victory. Promise David, Anouar Ait El Hadj and Kevin Mac Allister were all on the scoresheet for the defending Pro League champions.

El Hadj was the star on the night as he put in a man of the match display, with his goal being the eye catching moment on a famous night for the side from Brussels. PSV were sluggish and the fans were clearly frustrated as Union St Gilloise out fought and out thought the home side. Christian Burgess has been a worry for the game due to injury but was able to start and martial the sides defence to deny PSV on multiple occasions. Eventually, Ruben van Bommel did manage to get PSV on the scoresheet, but by then it was too little too late.
