Liverpool have a chance here to bag a truly exceptional footballer. He could become a mega star at Anfield.

It's looking more and more likely that Liverpool will spend big on a new winger. In some ways, they just have to.

Not replacing Luis Diaz last year was a terrible decision in hindsight and Liverpool lacked his energy and one-v-one ability all season long. Mohamed Salah's exit now doubles down on the problem - even in a difficult campaign, the Egyptian still had six non-penalty goals and six assists in the Premier League.

And so Liverpool have been linked with some top wingers this summer. Yan Diomande is perhaps the no.1 target but he's not the only one.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed back in April that the Reds viewed Bradley Barcola as a potential opportunity. It depends on Paris Saint-Germain's plans with the winger, and of course his own desire to leave PSG.

It now seems that Barcola is looking to leave. That's the report from the likes of TalkSport, suggesting that PSG will now sell the winger.

TeamTalk claims there have been initial talks between the player's camp and Liverpool, too. Things are gathering pace and RB Leipzig's reluctance to sell Diomande may push Barcola into the Reds' priority status.

There's little doubt around Barcola's quality. 13 goals and eight assists in all competitions last season undersells it, given this is a player who isn't actually playing as often as he'd like.

21 goals and 18 assists the season before is perhaps a better indicator of his quality. But even then, Barcola still wasn't playing constantly.

He's someone with a truly magnificent 90-minute rate of goal contributions. The kind of player you have to believe will move up a level with consistent minutes at at top side.

That's the appeal of Barcola. He could be someone who transforms into a mega star with the right environment, much as Mohamed Salah did on joining Liverpool.

The question now becomes whether he's the one the club throws their money at. It increasingly looks like he will be.
