An out-of-favour member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is now technically back on the books of the club.
The player in question? Oriol Romeu.
Midfielder Romeu for his part spent this past season plying his trade with Girona, on a temporary basis away from parent club Barcelona.
And the 33-year-old went on to endure something of a hit-and-miss time of things back at the Estadi Montilivi, racking up starts in just shy of half of Girona’s La Liga fixtures.
His performances across these outings didn’t prove sufficient to convince the board at the Estadi Montilivi of the merits of forking out a fee for Romeu’s signature, though, culminating in his latest departure back in May.
And as of today, July 1st, the former Southampton man is technically a first-team player at Barcelona once more.
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Barça have a ‘new’ player since Tuesday, July 1. Oriol Romeu is officially an FC Barcelona player again after he completed the year of loan he signed with Girona.’
It remains highly unlikely that Romeu will actually take to the pitch in Blaugrana colours again, however.
