Upamecano and Saliba missed Saturday’s France session three days before the World Cup semi-final against Spain in Dallas, scheduled for 21:00. L'Équipe reports that the centre-backs did not work with the group ahead of Tuesday’s match.
After a rest day on Friday, France returned to Bentley University in Waltham for their penultimate workout before flying to Texas. Only the first 15 minutes were open to the media.
Saliba’s programme has been managed since the start of the tournament to protect a back issue, and he has been kept to a minimum workload. Upamecano is also thought to be on a simple management plan for foot pain, with no concern over his availability in Dallas. The remainder of the squad trained.
Early in the session, the starters from the 2-0 win over Morocco on Thursday worked apart from the substitutes, who had extra conditioning. Kylian Mbappé, taken off with an ankle problem in that match, trained as normal.
During the open segment, the squad tested the Adidas ball introduced for the semi-finals. Mbappé examined it closely and has scored eight goals so far in the tournament.
France are due back on the Waltham pitches on Sunday morning, then will leave their base early afternoon to fly to Texas, a four-hour trip.
