The 24-year-old’s future at Hull was always in doubt, as his contract is expiring in the summer, whilst new boss Ruben Selles will be looking to bring in his own signings.

Ryan Longman transfer latest

And, it had appeared Longman would be reunited with Gary Rowett, with the current Oxford chief having signed the player on loan when he was in charge of Millwall last season.

It had been reported that a deal between the U’s and Hull had been agreed, but it has since been revealed that Wrexham have now tried to muscle in.

Journalist Jason Burt stated that the League One high-flyers had offered £500,000 for the player, as they try to convince Longman to drop to the third tier.

However, Hull Live has said that whilst the Red Dragons’ interest is genuine, there is still an expectation that Longman will sign for Oxford.

The former Brighton youngster is set for a medical today with Oxford, and there is an expectation that the deal will then be finalised.

Wrexham seeking attacking reinforcements ahead of transfer deadline

This would have been a real coup for Wrexham as Longman has proven himself to be a good Championship player, so he would’ve added a lot to the group.

Of course, they will keep pushing until it’s confirmed he is joining Oxford, but it does seem likely they have left it too late for this one.

Given his connection with Rowett, and the fact that Oxford are at a higher level and playing well, you can understand why the player would want to stay in the second tier.

From Wrexham’s perspective, it’s about looking at other targets if they miss out on Longman, but that shows they are targeting quality over quantity this month.

Phil Parkinson’s side are performing very well after successive promotions, and whilst their away form is a concern, it really must be said that they are overachieving to be sitting third, despite the wealth of the owners.

But, they have a chance to record a historic third promotion on the bounce, and the boss will know how important January is to that.
