A recent report from Calciomercato has stated that Liverpool are very interested in signing Christian Pulisic from AC Milan. The Reds want to sign a winger or wide attacker to strengthen their attacking positions. However, they have suffered a big blow in that pursuit as Pulisic is set to sign a new contract with the club. The 26-year-old’s salary will increase from €4m to €5m.

Christian Pulisic has been in sensational form

The career of Pulisic had suffered in the latter months of his tenure at Chelsea. However, he has grown in stature since making his move to AC Milan in the summer transfer window of 2023. The American star has been one of the best players in the Serie A recently.

He has featured in 20 games in all competitions in the season so far and has scored eight goals with six assists. Pulisic’s performances have attracted the attention of some of the best clubs in Europe. Many high-profile Premier League clubs, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, want to sign him.

However, AC Milan want to keep him at the club and want to offer a new contract by raising his wages from €4 million to €5 million.

Liverpool might suffer some departures in the attacking position. The future of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez is complicated at the club. Salah’s contract ends this summer, but he might renew. However, Nunez might not stay at the club after the summer, and hence Liverpool want to sign Pulisic.

Federico Chiesa hasn’t made that impact since arriving at the club. He has played just four matches in all competitions so far this season and has provided just one assist. Hence, the Reds want to sign Pulisic to get that sort of impact in the attacking position. However, as stated earlier, securing Pulisic won’t be an easy deal.

Traits of Pulisic: Why will it be a loss for Liverpool?

He has an excellent ability to control the ball on his feet and is a world-class dribbler. Pulisic knows to open up space with his first touch, and that shows his excellent technical prowess. The American has excellent speed and agility, which helps him get past defenders with the utmost ease. The former Chelsea man is not just a wide winger but is versatile enough to play in the central areas, which makes him adaptable to any technical setup. Hence, not getting him will be a big loss for Liverpool.

So, all in all, AC Milan are set to offer him a new contract with higher wages. So, it remains to be seen what options do Liverpool go for given that they won’t be able to get Pulisic soon.
