Uruguay have confirmed their 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Marcelo Bielsa naming a blend of experienced campaigners and established stars for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

La Celeste will be making their 15th World Cup appearance and will be aiming to add to the two titles they won in 1930 and 1950. Atlético Madrid defender José María Giménez will captain the side, bringing a wealth of experience with nearly 100 international appearances to his name.

One of the biggest talking points is the inclusion of veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The 39-year-old, who previously retired from international football, has returned for what is expected to be his final World Cup. He is set to feature at the tournament for a fifth time, extending his remarkable international career.

Uruguay's hopes will also rest on several of their leading players, including Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araújo, Manchester United's Manuel Ugarte, Flamengo playmaker Giorgian de Arrascaeta and striker Darwin Núñez.

There are notable absentees, however. Former Galatasaray midfielder Lucas Torreira has not been selected, while record goalscorer Luis Suárez misses out on a World Cup squad for the first time since South Africa 2010.

Uruguay begin their campaign against Saudi Arabia before facing Cape Verde and Spain in the group stage.
