Uruguay's 2026 World Cup squad contains a record seven players from Brazilian clubs, according to Globo.com. Marcelo Bielsa's list is the country's highest Brazil-based contingent at a World Cup.

The call-ups are Arrascaeta, De La Cruz and Varela of Flamengo, Canobbio of Fluminense, Emiliano Martínez and Piquerez of Palmeiras, and Rochet of Internacional.

The previous best was four at Mexico 1986 under Omar Borrás. That squad featured Rodolfo Rodríguez of Santos, Darío Pereyra of São Paulo, Víctor Diogo of Palmeiras and Rubén Paz of Internacional.

Across all World Cups to date, only Brazil and Uruguay have named as many as seven Brazil-based players in a final squad.

Among Bielsa's Brazil-based picks, Arrascaeta has the most caps and goals for Uruguay, 60 appearances and 13 goals, and is heading to a third consecutive finals. Club-mate Varela is also set for his third straight tournament.

De La Cruz has five goals in 34 caps and will go to his second World Cup, as will Canobbio with one goal in 15 caps and Rochet with 35 caps. Piquerez, 19 caps, and Emiliano Martínez, 10 caps, are in line for their first tournaments.
