USA, Mexico secure victories in U-17 Women’s World Cup

SALÉ, Morocco – The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2025 continued on Tuesday, with three teams from Concacaf nations among the day’s six matches.

Mexico earned its first win of the campaign, while Costa Rica earned its first point. The USA earned a second consecutive victory to seal its place in the Round of 16.

Costa Rica 1, Brazil 1

Costa Rica rescued a 1-1 draw against Brazil in Group A at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 1) in Salé, Morocco.

Lucia Panigua was the author of the opening goal for Las Ticas, controlling the ball through the Brazilian defensive line and finding the back of the net with a left-footed shot in the 32’. 

Brazil pulled one back in the 83’ through a header by Giovana Iseppe. Costa Rica goalkeeper Valeria Fernandez denied a penalty attempt from Brazil captain Kaylane in stoppage time to secure a point for the Central American side.

Costa Rica improved to 0-1-1 and occupies third place in the group ahead of its final Group Stage encounter against hosts Morocco on Friday.

United States 5, China 2 

The United States took a 5-2 victory against China PR in Group C at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 3) in Salé, Morocco.

China opened the scoring through Zhou Xinyi in the 12’. The U.S. pulled one back in the 27’ with a left-footed shot by Lauren Malsom in the box.

Maddie DiMaria put the U.S. in the lead in the 44’ with a low right-footed shot from the edge of the area. Nyanya Touray netted the third for the North Americans in the 45’+3’.

Touray secured her second brace of the tournament, and the fourth goal of the U.S. in the 62’ with a left-footed shot. Malsom completed her brace in the 68’.

Zeng Yijie pulled one back for China PR in the 85’ to close the scoring.

The U.S. improved to 2-0-0 and took first place in the group, along with securing its place in the Round of 16. The Stars and Stripes will finish the Group Stage against Norway on Friday.

Netherlands 0, Mexico 1

Mexico earned a 1-nil win against the Netherlands in Group B at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 2) in Salé, Morocco.

El Tricolor went down to ten players in the 58’ when Vanessa Paredes received a red card.

The lone goal of the evening came in the 87’, from Citlalli Reyes, with a right-footed banger from the midfield to secure Mexico’s first victory of the tournament.

Mexico improved to 1-0-1 and rose to second place in Group B, prior to its final Group Stage match against Cameroon on Friday.
