The biggest-ever World Cup has already seen one co-host qualify for the round of 32 in Mexico and they could soon be joined by the USA.
They lead against Australia after yet another own goal at this summer's tournament and yet another for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
After taking the lead in similar circumstances in their opener against Paraguay, the US needed just 11 minutes in Seattle to do so again.
Folarin Balogun was set free down the left and his dangerous cross towards goal was diverted in by the unlucky Cameron Burgess.
The strike means "Own Goal" is now level with the Monaco striker for the national team's top scorer in their opening two games.
Burgess' own goal is also a remarkable seventh in the tournament so far after 28-and-a-half games, with the record set in 2018 in sight with 75 games still to play.
Will the US join their southern neighbours in the knockout stages or can the Socceroos bounce back?
