Vagner Love, a league and state champion with Corinthians, has confirmed his retirement from football at 41. He said in a social media post that it was time to end his on the pitch career after years in the game.

In recent days he had trailed a last chapter theme online. He will draw a line under his playing days on Saturday, turning out for Retrô against Ceará in the Copa do Nordeste at 17:00 at Aflitos.

A Palmeiras academy graduate, he enjoyed two notable spells at Parque São Jorge. In 2015 he scored 16 goals in 50 games and was part of the squad that delivered Corinthians' sixth national title.

Sold to Monaco in 2016, he returned to Corinthians in 2019 after a stint in Türkiye. Across two seasons he made 71 appearances and scored 13 times, including the goal that clinched the State crown against São Paulo at Neo Química Arena in 2019.

Nicknamed Artilheiro do Amor, Love also shone for CSKA Moscow, and had spells with Flamengo and Shandong Luneng. His later career included Alanyaspor, Besiktas, Kairat Almaty, Midtjylland, Sport, Atlético Goianiense, Avaí and Retrô.
