Diego López suffered a serious knee injury in Valencia’s season finale at Mestalla.
The club said in a statement that the winger sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee during the match against Barcelona, and that his definitive treatment will be set in the coming hours.
He was replaced by Ramazani on Saturday in the last game of the campaign. Valencia needed to beat the LaLiga champions to keep Conference League hopes alive.
The lay-off is put at six to nine months, and it is clear he could not play again until 2027. He could even be without a squad place until the winter window. Valencia’s planning under Ron Gourlay will require an additional signing.
López finished the league season with 34 appearances, four goals and one assist. His campaign improved as it went on and he had regained his place in the starting XI.
Head coach Carlos Corberán was cautious post-match, noting uncertainty, that it was a knee issue rather than muscular, and expressing hope it would be minimal while acknowledging the squad’s empathy.
The 24-year-old is contracted until 30 June 2029 after stepping up from the reserves to become a regular. This is his first serious injury, the previous was a fractured cheekbone that sidelined him for a month in February 2024.
