Valentín Carboni has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, a major setback that will require surgery and a lengthy lay-off for Racing.

According to SuperDepor.com, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, on loan from Inter, has played only five matches for La Academia and now faces months out, with a comeback estimated for the final stretch of the year.

He was left on the turf when a team-mate landed on his leg after training that followed the draw against Independiente Rivadavia. Medical tests confirmed the blow for Gustavo Costas' squad, already hit by an ankle sprain to Adrián “Maravilla” Martínez.

The club are weighing up whether he will complete his rehabilitation in Argentina or return to Italy to continue treatment. It is not the first setback of this type. In October 2024, after being crowned champions of the Americas with Argentina, he sustained a ligament rupture in his left knee.

Carboni joined thanks to the link between Diego Milito and Javier Zanetti and started the Apertura as a regular, without consolidating his place. He was seeking minutes to return to Lionel Scaloni’s radar and fight for a 2026 World Cup spot, a goal now practically ruled out.

Racing are permitted to bring in an injury replacement while the forward begins another long rehabilitation that again stalls his international trajectory.
