FC Twente beat Heracles 2-0 in Almelo to rise from seventh to sixth in the Eredivisie.

Thomas Van Den Belt broke the deadlock with a close-range header in the 30th minute after a corner.

After the restart, Damon Mirani thumped a header against the bar for the hosts (48.). Ricky van Wolfswinkel then converted from the spot to double the lead (55.).

Twente finished with 10 men when Ramiz Zerrouki was shown a straight red card (58.). Heracles pushed late on but could not find a way past Lars Unnerstall.

The visitors registered 18 attempts with six on target. The home side posted 11 attempts and hit the target twice.
