Wolves remain in search of their first Premier League victory of the season after Jan Paul van Hecke’s late header salvaged a 1-1 draw for Brighton & Hove Albion at Molineux.

The game took an unusual twist early when Wolves manager Vitor Pereira was sent off for kicking the ball into the broadcast area in frustration over a denied free-kick.

Within moments of his dismissal, Wolves went ahead in somewhat fortuitous fashion. Marshall Munetsi’s effort from close range hit the crossbar, then bounced off Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and into the net.

The Seagulls, however, dominated possession for large parts of the contest. Sam Johnstone kept the home side in the game with a string of fine saves, including a brilliant stop to deny Georginio Rutter, while Jorgen Strand Larsen rattled the post late on.

Despite Wolves holding on for long periods, their defensive lapse late in the game proved costly. In the 86th minute, Maxim De Cuyper swung in a corner that Van Hecke met with a powerful header into the bottom corner, securing a deserved equaliser for the visitors.

The draw leaves Wolves rooted at the bottom of the table with just two points from seven games, while Brighton extend their unbeaten run to four matches and climb to 12th.
