Vanderlei Luxemburgo was discharged from hospital on Sunday after treatment for a lung infection, days after being admitted to intensive care. According to Globo.com, he had been at Hospital Medical Santa Thereza in Palmas, Tocantins.
On leaving, he posted a light-hearted video, likening himself to a stick that bends but does not break. He added that time in hospital, particularly in intensive care, is difficult.
Luxemburgo said he had contracted a bacterium that affects 40% of the population. After returning from Brasília he felt very unwell with chills, then went to hospital the next day. He underwent intensive treatment, stabilised, and will continue recovery at home while easing his workload to limit exposure.
The 73-year-old is a pre-candidate for the Senate for Tocantins with Podemos. His schedule has been paused temporarily, and he is expected to resume his routine soon.
He said a recent check-up showed he is fully recovered and ready for new battles. Luxemburgo has been out of football since 2023, when he led Corinthians.
