Tottenham Hotspur had a first-half penalty at the Stadium of Light overturned after VAR ruled that Omar Alderete played the ball.
According to Sunderland Echo, referee Rob Jones initially pointed to the spot midway through the half when Randal Kolo Muani surged into the box, Alderete challenged and Luke O’Nien slid in.
VAR official James Bell then advised an on-field review, and Jones watched the replays on the pitchside monitor.
The footage showed Alderete getting a touch before Muani went to ground, with O’Nien’s challenge coming afterwards.
Jones cancelled the penalty and restarted with a drop ball to the goalkeeper, saying the ball was played first and there was no penalty.
