Vasco are close to appointing former Flamengo executive Fred Luz as CEO of the club’s SAF.

According to O Globo, Vasco are preparing to part company with current SAF chief executive Carlos Amodeo. He is in the United States on club business representing club president Pedrinho, and has been told his time is nearing an end.

Luz’s name has been approved by the club’s would-be new owner, businessman Marcos Lamachia, the stepson of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira. Luz currently works as an executive at consultancy Alvarez & Marsal.

A close ally of Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Bap, Luz worked with him at Lojas Americanas before joining Flamengo’s Chapa Azul in 2012. After Eduardo Bandeira de Mello won the 2013 election, Luz became marketing director and Bap served as vice-president for the same area.

By 2018 Luz was Flamengo’s CEO in the final year of Bandeira de Mello’s administration. He was not retained by Rodolfo Landim’s incoming team, despite both emerging from Chapa Azul.

He later served as Corinthians’ CEO, then left the post the following April. “At Corinthians there was no political alignment with the club’s objectives. The president, under pressure on several fronts, could not unify all branches of the club around him,” he said, speaking to Game Changers on Infomoney last year.
