Vasco da Gama face São Paulo in the Brasileirão at São Januário on Saturday, with the visitors sitting third and the hosts 13th as both look to nudge their seasons in the right direction in Rio.
Vasco da Gama host São Paulo with the recent head-to-head tilting to the away side, who won the last two league meetings, 2-0 in Rio in November 2025 and 3-1 at home in June 2025.
Vasco are winless in five league and cup games, drawing three of them, but all three of their league wins have come at São Januário. Tricolor Paulista, by contrast, have won three of their last five in all competitions, including Sudamericana victories over Boston River and O'Higgins and a 4-1 league win against Cruzeiro.
The hosts are without midfielders Jair and Mateus Carvalho, while defender Alan Saldivia is suspended. Soberano travel short in attack with Lucas Moura, Luciano and Jonathan Calleri injured, and defensive options are hit by suspensions for Rafael Tolói and Lucas Ramon, with Pablo Maia, Damián Bobadilla, Sabino, Paulinho and Ryan Francisco also sidelined.
Gigante da Colina have scored 16 and conceded 17 in 11, so this may hinge on home intensity and moments in both boxes. Tricolor Paulista's record of nine conceded in 11 points to a tighter rearguard that could keep them in control away from home.
Soberano could consolidate their Copa Libertadores place with a result. Gigante da Colina may climb towards mid-table and put further distance between themselves and the relegation fight.
