Vasco closed a hectic January shaped by transfers. Rayan and Vegetti left, Brenner and Marino Hinestroza arrived, and the team need a response in the Brasileirão and the Carioca.

Globo.com reports that hopes of keeping Rayan until mid-year faded after Bournemouth’s 35 million euros bid. The offer swayed the forward and Vasco accepted.

10 days passed between Bournemouth’s interest and Rayan’s flight. He bade farewell with a 4-2 win over Maricá in the Carioca opener at São Januário.

Another saga took Vegetti to Cerro Porteño. Early in January a director there said they were negotiating, and after the Maricá game he asked to leave, then said goodbye before Nova Iguaçu.

Vasco moved quickly, completing deals for Brenner and Hinestroza. Brenner had long been the coach’s target, and the Colombian was pursued last year.

For February, the plan is at least two more signings, a left-back and a forward, with Cuiabano and Cláudio Spinelli targeted. Agreements with the players are in place, with final issues to resolve with Nottingham Forest and Independiente del Valle, who prefer sales to Vasco’s loan proposals with options or obligations.

Other options are mapped but undisclosed, the aim is to raise the squad’s physical profile. On the pitch, Diniz meets Madureira and Botafogo in the Carioca, then Chapecoense in the Brasileirão, after losses to Flamengo and Mirassol.

Off the pitch, the club are seeking a new main shirt sponsor. After agreeing a kit deal with Nike, they want a replacement for Betfair.
