Vasco hands São Januário revamp to General Assembly president Alan Belaciano | OneFootball

Vasco has reshaped oversight of the São Januário revamp, replacing vice president Renato Brito with General Assembly president Alan Belaciano. According to Globo.com, he will now lead talks.

Belaciano had already worked on the subject and is a close ally of president Pedrinho. He will head a working group to liaise on the project and its next steps.

As Assembly chief he ran key ballots viewed as crucial to progress. Even so, the project has stalled for months, with works on hold amid uncertainty while the club depends on selling its potencial construtivo.

Vasco signed exclusivity with SOD Capital mid last year to buy that potencial construtivo for use on land in Barra da Tijuca. The insurer received three deadline extensions, but no deal was formalised.

The final window expired on 13 February this year. Since then, Pedrinho has met mayor Eduardo Paes, politicians and representatives of other firms and insurers to present the proposal.

The club opened a new tender for companies to acquire the potencial construtivo, valued at more than R$ 500 million, although there has been no progress so far.

Vasco is currently working to an R$ 800 million budget to make the renovation sustainable, up from the initial R$ 500 million estimate.

The increase is attributed to construction cost inflation in recent years. Naming rights are seen as the main complementary revenue, and other funding routes remain possible. The club gives no start date and awaits next steps in the land purchase.
