Vasco ‘has fined’ Barros after his recent red card, an internal move aimed at reinforcing discipline within the squad.
VDG-CAST reports that the club’s football department imposed a significant financial penalty following the midfielder’s dismissal in the draw with Cruzeiro at the Mineirão, which left Vasco with ten men for more than 30 minutes in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
The decision has the full backing of the new coaching staff. Under Renato Gaúcho, fines for avoidable red cards are a common teaching tool to uphold non-negotiable tactical discipline.
Renato had played down the mistake in recent press conferences to protect the youngster publicly, but supported the sanction inside São Januário to prevent repeat offences this season.
An academy graduate who returned from a loan at América-MG, Barros now has two straight red cards in 13 appearances in 2026, including the one shown in the state derby against Flamengo.
He is automatically suspended and will miss tonight’s meeting with arch-rivals Fluminense, with Thiago Mendes to start in midfield.
