Vasco have made an enquiry for Arthur Chaves as they prioritise signing a centre-back in the next window, while monitoring options abroad. The 25-year-old is on loan at Augsburg.
Detetives Vascaínos first reported the approach.
Chaves is contracted to Hoffenheim and loaned to Augsburg until the end of this month, with his deal running until mid 2029. He was loaned at the start of the year and has played 11 matches, scoring two goals.
Director Admar Lopes is leading conversations and assessing further names overseas. There is no formal offer at present. People close to the player indicate he is open to a return to Brazilian football in the window, and at least one other Brazilian club also has interest.
Vasco had mapped Chaves late last year but instead signed Carlos Cuesta at the request of then coach Fernando Diniz. At 1.88m, the right-footed defender fits the brief of a physically imposing option strong in the air.
A youth product of Avaí, he played for their first team between 2021 and 2022, then moved to Académico in Portugal before joining Hoffenheim in 2024. He also started throughout the national team’s title-winning campaign at the Santiago Pan American Games in 2023.
