Vasco have opened talks over Nottingham Forest centre-back Jair Cunha to strengthen defence, but progress has stalled.
According to Coluna 1927, the 21-year-old has had limited game time in England, which could ease a release. Discussions centred on a loan with a purchase option, but contacts paused after a court injunction sidelined Pedrinho from the SAF leadership.
The need for a centre-back has become urgent as the club look to shore up their back line. Political infighting has also halted other moves, including the move for defender Arthur Chaves.
Executive Admar Lopes is seeking a legal route to revive negotiations, while Bruno Lazaroni leads mid-season training at CT Moacyr Barbosa. The aim is to reinforce quickly and climb from 17th in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Standing 1.98m, Cunha is noted for his physicality and aerial strength. He came through Santos’ academy, had a spell at Botafogo, then joined Nottingham Forest.
Unable to nail down a starting role in the Premier League, he is viewed as a market opportunity and the leading target to address Vasco’s defensive needs in 2026.
