Vasco open talks with Racing over Sosa | OneFootball

Vasco have opened talks with Racing over 27-year-old midfielder Santiago Sosa, a long-standing target for the Brazilian club.

The club recently contacted Racing to discuss terms and pricing. Uol first reported the interest.

There has been no formal written offer, but Vasco indicated a package worth US$ seven million, R$ 35.4 million at current rates, with US$ five million fixed and the rest in performance bonuses.

Racing rejected that figure, valuing the midfielder around US$ 10 million, R$ 50.6 million. Under such terms, Vasco would need longer instalments and a multi-year payment schedule, as in previous deals.

The Avellaneda side initially insisted on the release clause, a little above US$ 12 million, R$ 60.7 million, but softened their stance amid contract renewal issues. Sosa has given signs he will not extend his deal, which runs to the end of 2027.

From next year he can sign a pre-contract with any club, so his value could fall each window without a renewal.

Sosa wants improved wages, something Vasco have indicated they could offer, and the player has shown interest in Brazilian football. Discussions are still at an early stage.

The Argentine joined Racing in 2024 and was among the standouts in that year’s Copa Sudamericana triumph. A holding midfielder by trade, he can also fill in at centre-back. This season he has 23 appearances, with three goals and one assist.
