Vasco have lined up a change at the helm of their SAF and reached an agreement for Fred Luz to become CEO. O Globo reports the move comes as current chief executive Carlos Amodeo, hired in July 2024, prepares to depart.
The new executive is expected to take charge later this month. The switch was not a condition in talks with new investor, businessman Marcos Lamachia, the stepson of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira.
Amodeo has a contract through 9 July but is set to leave earlier. Luz arrives with the objective of increasing the club’s revenues.
Luz is a partner at Alvarez & Marsal, the firm overseeing Vasco’s judicial recovery. The club was not able to pursue a more radical change in the role at this moment, and his name was well received internally.
Amodeo joined in 2024 to replace Lúcio Barbosa, having previously served as CEO of Coritiba’s SAF.
Luz joined Flamengo in 2013, the first year of Eduardo Bandeira de Mello’s administration, as marketing director, then became CEO in 2014 and remained until May 2018.
He later worked on João Amoedo’s 2018 presidential campaign for Partido Novo. In 2020 he ran for Rio de Janeiro mayor, receiving a little more than 46,000 votes to finish ninth and miss the second round.
In 2024 he became Corinthians’ CEO, left after a few months to act as a consultant to the club, and in May this year the company stepped away.
