Vasco have sacked head coach Fernando Diniz on Sunday, four days before facing Santos in the fourth round of the Brasileirão 2026.

The club said in a statement that Diniz had left his role, with assistants Ricardo Cobalchini and Evandro Fornari and fitness coach Wagner Bertelli also departing. Bruno Lazaroni takes interim charge.

They were beaten 1-0 by Fluminense in the first leg of the Carioca semi-finals.

In his second spell at the club, Diniz oversaw 56 matches, winning 17, drawing 16 and losing 23.

Vasco sit 17th in the Brasileirão with one point, one place above Santos. Lazaroni may lead the side at Vila Belmiro on Thursday against Santos.
