Vasco have reversed course on punishing Barros for his sending off in the 3-3 draw with Cruzeiro, scrapping a planned fine and issuing only a formal warning.
According to PaponaColina, the club cancelled the financial sanction and chose a strictly educational approach aimed at curbing tactical indiscipline in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Senior figures had weighed docking the player to set an example in line with Renato Gaúcho’s disciplinary framework, but a closed meeting shelved that plan. Director of football Admar Lopes led the process and held a frank, lengthy conversation with the midfielder.
Lopes stopped short of a fine, demanding an immediate change in on-field behaviour to prevent further naive dismissals that disrupt the team’s structure and expose the defence.
Barros has five disciplinary sanctions this season, three yellow cards and two reds, across 13 first-team appearances, including an early sending off against Flamengo.
His latest dismissal at Mineirão means he is suspended for Wednesday’s decisive derby with Fluminense, with the experienced Thiago Mendes to take his place in midfield.
