Vasco lost 1-0 at home to Atlético-MG on Sunday, dropping into the relegation zone amid boos and chants of “sem vergonha”. Goalkeeper Léo Jardim said the side squandered chances and understood the anger in the stands.
He accepted that supporters are entitled to demand more, adding the team knows it must improve, keep working and try to get out of the situation. According to Globo.com, he said results are needed and the focus is on correcting mistakes.
The defeat extends a dire run, with only one win in the last six matches, against Barracas Central in the Sul-Americana. Vasco stay on 20 points and slip to 17th place.
The mood was already sour after last week’s 3-0 home loss to Bragantino at São Januário, which ended with strong protests against coach Renato Gaúcho. He did not hold a post-match press conference, and organised groups also demonstrated at the training ground during the week.
Jardim said it was difficult to pinpoint problems immediately after the game. He explained the squad had worked hard all week to change their negative sequence, believed they could win this match, created opportunities but failed to take them.
