Vasco suffer worst points-era Brasileirão start and drop to bottom after four games | OneFootball

Vasco sit bottom of the Brasileirão after their worst start of the points era, with one point from 12 after four rounds.

According to Globo.com, the league is the club’s top priority this season, and executives had hoped for a calmer opening.

Defeat to Santos left them bottom, their only point came against Chapecoense after spurning a host of chances. They also lost to Bahia at home and to Mirassol away.

The pattern echoes 2019, when they were also bottom after four. That year they lost 4-1 to Athletico-PR, 2-1 to Atlético-MG and 3-0 to Santos, drawing 1-1 with Corinthians.

This poor league start, alongside instability in the Campeonato Carioca, led to Fernando Diniz being dismissed last weekend after a first-leg semi-final defeat to Fluminense. Vasco have won only three of their 12 games this season.

They face Fluminense on Sunday at 18:00 at the Maracanã. Their next Brasileirão fixture is at home to Palmeiras on 12 March.
